Wedding Date – Saturday 16th September 2017
We first met Chris and Kerry on the 14th April 2016. After over ten years together, they had finally decided to tie the knot! They fell in love with The Old Vicarage and chose to get married on 16th September 2017. After our initial meeting, we knew we were all going to work so well together.
Chris and Kerry were very relaxed and a lot of fun, making the wedding planning process a dream for us. Every meeting they attended they ensured to bring their little French Bulldog Beau, who thoroughly enjoyed playing in our garden whilst we talked them through how their day was going to pan out. Chris and Kerry kept us in the loop throughout the planning process; its safe to say Chris is the only groom so far that has taken to referring to us as Che, Reb, Ver! (Chelsea, Rebecca and Verity).
Chris, a bag of nerves dropped Kerry off the night before their wedding with her bridesmaids, and of course Beau. We gave him the usual talk of ‘not too much to drink’ and waved him off ready for the girls to relax and enjoy their evening. It was a pleasure to have Kerry’s family and friends at The Old Vicarage. Everyone was very relaxed and excited for the day ahead.
The morning of the wedding we all snook in for a sneak peak of Kerry’s wedding dress. Wow. It was totally different to anything we had seen all summer. It was the most perfectly fitted long silk gown by Suzanne Neville with a detachable elegant skirt by Pronovias that cinched her tiny waist, Kerry found her dream wedding dress at The Wedding Club, Birmingham. She was going too look absolutely incredible and we could not wait to see it on. Kerry had chosen for her bridesmaids to wear black cocktail dresses that flattered each bridesmaids shape perfectly.
Loren Lane Make-up Artist and The Tier Hairdressing arrived around 8.30am to begin hair and make-up! Its so important to choose an amazing team to prepare you for your wedding day, it not only vital that they’re the best at what they do but you also need have someone who is going to make the morning of your wedding as stress free as possible and to add their own charm to the day! Selfishly, wonderful suppliers make our jobs such a joy… A huge thank you to Loren and Tracey!
As the girl’s hair and makeup all came together upstairs, a very nervous and excited Chris ran up the steps to The Old Vicarage to greet us. We did our best to calm his nerves as the florist, who was a friend of Chris and Kerry’s put the finishing pieces to the grooms men’s buttonholes. The Groomsmen all looked very smart in their navy Reiss suits.
As we helped Chris seat all the guests, the time came to get Kerry and her bridesmaids ready to walk down the aisle. We seated Kerry’s dad in the bar lounge, ready to link her arm as she walked past and give her away to become the new Mrs Shaw.
Everyone had a tear in their eye as Chris turned to see Kerry in her wedding dress for the first time, including us! After working so closely with Chris and Kerry we really felt part of their wedding celebrations and thoroughly enjoyed watching them become husband and wife.
What was your favourite part of the day?
Chris “The build up to the ceremony, the time between the ceremony and the wedding breakfast. I cannot properly describe how exciting and joyful this time is. From getting out of the car and walking up the steps into the venue you are made to feel so special. As a groom you can meet all the guests in what is such an amazing place. The anticipation and nervous excitement continue to build until the ceremony – where I started to fall apart (I only have myself to blame for that). The ceremony was a little bit of a blur however afterwards I have such amazing memories of chatting (and hugging) all the guests and everyone telling you how happy they are. It was amazing”.
Kerry “All of it! I loved the morning build up getting ready with my bridesmaids and mum and auntie. Seeing everyone all together in one place all dressed up and getting to mingle after the ceremony and after the meal was brilliant. I actually enjoyed the ceremony and didn’t mind everyone watching, I think I secretly love the attention. Also seeing my Dad’s little face waiting to walk down was a highlight. Oh yes and of course marrying Chris…”
I’m sure if you have read any of our other blogs you will know how we sing Martin Makowski’s praises! He is just fantastic, he never fails to capture our couples wedding day perfectly and we cannot recommend him enough.
Beau played a starring role in the wedding decor! Nicola from Rose Press Design perfectly created a copper silhouette of Beau to jazz up their very simple and elegant design for their table plan and name cards!
The speeches we very emotional, Chris didn’t let us down on the day! As Chris says himself he is a bit of a whittler, however on the day although very emotional he pulled it out the bag. We absolutely love hearing about how our couples first met and hearing Chris’ hilarious account of how him and Kerry first met in the dinner queue at Capital One, he had everyone in stitches!

Pressed Derbyshire ham hock terrine with a selection of pickled vegetables
Cropwell Bishop panna cotta with candid walnut and pear poached in port and Madeira
Glazed beef short rib with creamed potato, pea puree, madeira jus, finished with shallot rings
Honey and mustard glazed root vegetable ‘tarte fine’ with fontina cheese, baby herb salad and cider vinegar
Roast Cod with leek and potato cake, buttered greens finished with rich lobster bisque
Assiette of Dessert
Classic crème brulee with a caramel and crisp biscotti.
Warm sticky toffee pudding with rich butterscotch sauce and Devonshire clotted cream.
Glazed lemon tart with raspberry meringue and coulis.
Outside of our wedding package, the assiette of dessert is something that we can’t recommend enough. Its has the wow factor from the moment it is placed in front of your wedding guests, soon becoming the talking point of every wedding breakfast! Although we have tried and tested (many times) and love all of our desserts, it’s so important to choose three which not only compliment each other visually but also on the palette. Chris and Kerry really welcomed our advice with regards to menu’s, which was really nice to have their trust!
As we spent many wedding meetings in the garden during the planning process, it was really nice to see Kerry, Chris and all of their guests being able to enjoy the gardens. We have to hand it to our gardener Basil (Not Basil Fawlty). He’s done a fantastic job all year round to ensure that the gardens have looked their absolute best.
As everyone enjoyed the last of the sunshine, we prepared for the evening reception and evening guests to arrive! Mansfield Avenue arrived with plenty of time to set up and they are always so helpful when working with our team! They did a fantastic job of getting everyone up on the dance floor, singing their hearts out until carriages at midnight.

‘Myself and Kerry were married at The Old Vicarage on Sept 16th 2017. Right from our first visit we knew this was the venue for us. Chelsea and Rebecca were both so friendly and obviously knew their jobs inside out. The venue always looks amazing and the attention to detail in terms of decor is levels above all the other places we visited. We booked 18 months in advance and although there were some stressful times planning everything, Chelsea and Rebecca were brilliant at helping us organise and stop worrying. I can honestly say they became like friends.
I know Kerry loved the night before at the venue. It really added to such a special occasion and gives you even more amazing memories.
On the day the place looked fantastic. Modern but with a traditional twist. I’ll never forget getting out the car and walking up the steps with my best men and ushers. We have had so many guests telling us how lovely the venue was and how much they enjoyed the food.
Everything was all so organised and all our stresses and worries were taken away. If at any time I went into my ‘panic mode’ Chelsea, Rebecca and Verity were straight on it and just said “it’s fine, we’ll sort it, just enjoy your day.
The day was honestly superb. Myself and Kez loved it. We felt like ‘rock stars’. All this is down to our wonderful friends and family but also how special we were made
to feel by everyone involved with the old vicarage – we both can’t thank them all enough.
The rooms are the best I have seen. Really well designed and our overnight guests loved them.
It was one of our best decisions to choose the old vicarage, it suited us perfectly and we will both never forget our amazing day.
